Eye Exams for Contact Lens Wearers
For people who want to rely less on glasses—even with strong or irregular prescriptions—Grapevine Vision fits soft, rigid-gas-permeable, scleral, hybrid and other medically-necessary lenses that bring clear, comfortable sight to everyday life. We earn that comfort through careful measurements, evidence-based lens selection, and structured follow-up visits that fine-tune every fit.
What should you know about contact lenses?
- Most soft contact lenses are made of silicone hydrogel, a highly oxygen-permeable material, making them safe and comfortable to wear all day. Hard contact lenses come in a variety of materials also optimized for breathability and comfort.
- There are many replacement schedules for contact lenses. Daily disposable and monthly disposable contact lenses are the most common.
- Daily disposable contact lenses are “single wear”; inserted in the morning and discarded at night. These lenses have the lowest risk of infection, highest compliance rate, and they match non-CL-wearer comfort. They are ideal for individuals who suffer from allergies or dryness, who use screens heavily, who travel often, who occasionally wear contact lenses, or those seeking ease of use.
- Monthly disposable contact lenses are “re-wearable”; inserted in the morning, soaked in a cleaning solution overnight, and discarded 30 days after opening. These lenses come with a higher risk of infection, worse compliance with replacement schedule and cleaning regimen, and potentially worse comfort. Those individuals seeking to wear monthly disposable contact lenses must be responsible and meticulous about hygiene and replacement schedule.
- Contact lenses are most often designed to be worn during the day and removed at night while sleeping. There are very few contact lenses that are FDA approved for overnight wear.
- When inserting and removing contact lenses, clean hands & a clean workspace should be used. If storing contacts in a case overnight, ensure the case is kept clean, the contact lens cleaning solution is replaced daily, and the contact lens case is left open to air dry throughout the day.
- Patients should discontinue contact lens wear and return to clinic if they experience any redness, pain, visual changes, or other signs of infection while wearing contact lenses.
